4th Annual Madeline Pape Memorial Competition (Winner)

On Friday night June 7, 2019 we held the 4th Annual Madeline Pape Memorial Competition. The winner of first prize and a $500 scholarship this year is pianist Demi Alba who performed Fantaisie-Impromptu op.66 by Chopin. She is a student of Dr. Yoana Kyurchieva at the Conservatory of Music at Taylor.

Demi was also awarded a trophy to take home with her name engraved on it. In the waiting area at the conservatory we now have a plaque with all the winners, past and present, of this prestigious award.

Pianist Demi Alba also won the audience prize, where those watching the competition were asked to vote on what they thought was the best performance! Demi is shown here with jury member pianist Sarah Ho.

Nikolai with Fred Pape our benefactorMr. Fred Pape of Edmonton set up an endowment for Taylor students in 2014 in honour of his wife, Madeline Buckles Pape. Part of the proceeds are directed towards students of the Conservatory of Music.

Mrs. Pape attended this institution in 1941-42 before becoming a teacher. She loved music, and Mr. Pape says he hopes the scholarship will encourage deserving students to apply their God-given talents for the glory of God.
